Hey everyone,
Sometimes my stump quivers 🙁 Mom puts a nice warm towel on it to calm the muscles. I like that 🙂 Does this muscle quiver happen to other tripawds?
Bernice (Berner) has a new leash on life :)

we don’t know…when gayle had her amputation (front right) they took the leg and the scapula (shoulder blade) to make an easier detachment (no joint to go thru) so gayle is total ‘smooth’ on her right side. maybe it’s phantom pain of a sort due to the remaining nerves???
charon & gayle
We’ve seen this happen in some new new tripawds. Now we only notice Wyatt’s stump quiver if he’s chasing rabbits in his sleep, or we’re scratching his side missing the leg!
Be sure to review the tips for managing phantom limb pain in dogs, and check out Bella’s Pain Relief Pack for a great heat/ice pad designed specifically for dogs.
Pretty sure it is. Gerry had more quivering closer to his amputation (last December). It still happens from time to time now, but much less frequently now as say the first month or so after. He doesn’t seem distressed at all when it’s happening. I’ll often gently pet his stump when it happens, and he’s not sensitive about it at all and sometimes it’ll stop almost right away when I do. Gerry’s not a fan of warm towels, so I haven’t tried that, but if Berner likes it – sounds like a good idea!
If you haven’t already, you might try searching the forums to see if other people have found out from their vets what’s up with that (I might try searching myself). Also, when looking for advice, I find posting in the forums is more effective. More people will see a question there and you’ll usually get more responses that way.
“Pretty sure it is normal,” is what I meant my first sentence to be.
